Well-known Bay Area poet Jane Hirshfield will read her poetry this coming Thursday evening, December 4, at 7:00 PM, in the library’s Edith Stone Room. The event is part of “First Thursdays,” the Albany Library’s ongoing monthly poetry series, and will include a short break for refreshments followed by an Open Mic session from 8:00 to 9:00.
Jane Hirshfield is the author of six books of poetry, most recently After (HarperCollins, 2006). She has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Academy Fellowship from the Academy of American Poets for “distinguished poetic achievement” (previous winners included Ezra Pound and Robert Frost). Hirshfield also studied at the Zen Center in San Francisco and is known for her interest in Buddhist thought, evident in her book of essays about poetry, Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry.
